Never did I would have I No sooner Little was Hardly Only Rarely

( 1 ) have I been so surprised as when I saw the enormous castle in front of me . ( 2 ) had I taken a step forward when the heavy wooden doors creaked open by themselves . Inside , the air was thick with mystery . ( 3 ) there a sound ? only silence filled the grand hall .

I looked around carefully , feeling a strange presence . ( 4 ) imagine seeing a shadow moving across the wall . My heart pounded . ( 5 ) when I reached the staircase did I realize I was not alone . A whisper echoed : " Welcome . . . "

Before I could run , a gentle laugh broke the silence . " Do not be afraid , " said an old man appearing from behind a pillar . " You are the first visitor in years . ( 6 ) seen someone so young dare to enter . "

I smiled nervously . Under no circumstances ( 7 ) I have believed such a place existed , but here I was .
