The Treasure Hunt

Jake and his friends were on a treasure hunt deep in the forest . They had found an old map in Jake ? s attic , and without thinking much , they decided to follow it .

" We should do this , " Emily said . " If we don ? t follow the directions exactly , we might get lost . "

" Nah , we don ? t need to be that strict , " Mike replied . " I can figure out the path . " He took a random turn , leading them in the wrong direction .

Jake , who , quickly noticed strange footprints on the ground . " Guys , we ? re not alone , " he whispered . " Someone else might be after the treasure . "

Excited by the idea of a race , Mike started running ahead . " Let ? s hurry before they find it first ! "

" I going too fast , " Emily warned . " We don ? t know what ? s out there . " But Mike ignored her .

Finally , they reached the marked spot and started digging . After a while , they hit something ? a rusty old chest . When they opened it , they found gold coins and ancient - looking jewels .

Mike immediately grabbed more than the others . " I get ! I did most of the digging ! "

" Hey , we ? re in this together , " Jake protested . " We should split it equally . "

But Mike , in his excitement , had , stuffing his pockets so fast that he didn ? t notice the ground beneath him crumbling . Suddenly , he slipped and tumbled down a small hill , losing most of his treasure in the process .

Emily shook her head . " Told you not to rush . "

Mike sighed , dusting himself off . " Okay , okay . Next time , I ? ll listen . "

Jake laughed . " If there ? s a next time , let ? s do it . "
