Pare che ieri sera , dopo la cena dai Gentili , Davide via senza salutare . Quando la padrona di casa ha commentato che se ne era andato all'inglese , alcuni si sono domandati il significato di questo modo di dire . È stata una chiacchierata interessante . Sembra infatti che questa frase di origine francese ( filer à l'anglaise ) e che ai tempi delle grandi battaglie navali . Altri pensano invece che i primi a usare una frase di questo tipo gli inglesi e i tedeschi nel XVIII secolo ( infatti loro dicono ancora " filarsela alla francese " ) . Si dice che poi i francesi l'abbiano usata parlando degli inglesi , per vendicarsi . A quei tempi infatti era in uso , in Francia , lasciare una festa senza salutare il padrone di casa .
