Chocolate is one of the most loved sweets in the world , but not many people know how it is made . It ( find ) by ancient civilizations in Central America , and later ( bring ) to Europe by Spanish explorers in the 1500s .

First , cocoa beans ( grow ) in tropical countries like Ghana , Ivory Coast , and Brazil . After they are ripe , the cocoa pods ( take ) from the trees by hand and ( break ) open to remove the beans inside .

Next , the beans ( leave ) to ferment for several days to develop their flavor . After that , they ( spread ) out and ( dry ) under the sun . Once dry , the beans ( send ) to chocolate factories around the world .

At the factory , the beans ( roast ) to bring out their rich taste . Then , the outer shells off ( take ) , and the inside part , called " nibs , " ( grind ) into a thick paste known as cocoa mass . This mass ( press ) to separate cocoa butter from cocoa powder .

Finally , the cocoa butter and cocoa powder ( mix ) with sugar and milk to create smooth chocolate . The mixture ( melt ) , ( pour ) into molds , and ( leave ) to cool , forming the chocolate bars that ( sell ) in stores everywhere .
