O Sistema Solar é uma região do espaço situada num dos braços da Via Láctea e é dominado por uma estrela , o Sol , que se encontra no seu centro . Devido à sua gravidade , os planetas e outros corpos celeste executam órbitas elíticas ao seu redor . Este sistema é constituído por oito planetas , quatro também denominados de devido à semelhança com a Terra , pois são sólidos ( , Vénus , e Marte ) e quatro exteriores também chamados de gigantes gasosos ( , Saturno , Úrano e ) .
O é o astro principal do Sistema Solar . Sendo uma estrela , possui luz própria e proporciona e luz ao planeta Terra . A sua atração gravitacional sobre os planetas mantém - nos em órbita solar , influenciando - os na sua velocidade de , sendo esta tanto maior quanto maior for a sua proximidade do planeta .
