La primera etapa del mètode científic és . Quan analitzem atentament els ens sorgeixen dubtes , ens vénen a la ment multitud de preguntes i és quan ens plantegem un davant d'eixa inquietud de voler saber .
Una és una suposició , una idea que se'ns ocorre com a a un problema . Com és una suposició no té per què ser . Açò és precisament el que investigarem amb , si la nostra hipòtesi és la al problema plantejat .
Per a comprovar si la nostra hipòtesi és vàlida dissenyem un . Repetim experiències per a poder analitzar - les . Per a això hem de definir les que intervenen en el procés ( dependents i independents ) , triar la forma i els de mesurament , dissenyar la forma de registrar les ( taules , per exemple ) i veure la forma d'analitzar i relacionar els obtinguts ( equacions , gràfiques , ? ) .
Si després d'analitzar els resultats veiem que es compleix la hipòtesi llavors podem considerar - la i formular i teories ( les lleis constitueixen teories ) . Si al contrari els resultats no confirmen la hipòtesi hem de tornar a l'etapa dos i tornar a la hipòtesi .
