HIV is through with certain body from a person who has HIV , such as blood , semen , vaginal fluids , rectal fluids , and breast milk . The most common ways HIV is transmitted include unprotected contact , sharing needles , and from mother to child during childbirth or breastfeeding . While there is currently no cure for HIV , it can be managed with antiretroviral therapy ( ART ) , which helps people with HIV live longer , healthier lives and reduces the risk of transmission to others . Regular testing and early diagnosis are essential for effective management of the virus .
