About this activity
La respiración celular es un proceso que permite a las células obtener energía a partir de la glucosa. Este proceso ocurre en varias etapas: primero, en la glucólisis, que tiene lugar en el citoplasma, la glucosa se divide en dos moléculas de ácido pirúvico. Luego, en la mitocondria, el ácido pirúvico entra al ciclo de Krebs, donde se producen electrones de alta energía. Finalmente, en la cadena de transporte de electrones, esos electrones generan una gran cantidad de ATP, que es la principal fuente de energía celular. Para que este proceso sea eficiente, se necesita oxígeno, por eso se llama respiración aeróbica.
