Además , aunque muchas personas piensan que " libre " es sinónimo de " gratuito " , en realidad el término se refiere a la libertad de uso , no necesariamente al precio .

El uso del software libre es muy común en sistemas operativos como Debian o Ubuntu , y también en programas populares como el navegador Firefox o el reproductor VLC Media Player .
