Es el 10 abril , del año 1815 ,
y en tan solo unos momentos ,
el sol desaparecerá .
En una isla de la actual Indonesia ,
el Monte Tambora hace erupción un estruendo
que puede escucharse a más de 2 , 000 km de distancia .
Columnas de vapor de sulfuro y ceniza , se elevan kilómetros en el cielo ,
formando nubes oscuras de tormenta hollín y relámpagos .
Esta erupción se convertirá en la erupción más grande en la historia documentada .
Pero este es apenas el comienzo lo que acontecerá .
Ascendiendo muy alto en la atmósfera ,
emisiones del Tambora se diseminarán lo largo de todo el mundo ,
ocultando la luz del sol casi todo un año .
Los cielos nebulosos y el clima frío del año 1816
causarán estragos en la agricultura ,
ocasionando hambrunas a través de todo el Hemisferio Norte .
Naciones batallarán epidemias ,
y los artistas crearán obras deprimentes estos tiempos apocalípticos .
Este fue el año sin verano .
Literalmente uno de los periodos más oscuros de la historia humana .
Entonces ¿ qué hay investigadores modernos intentando replicar esto ?
Obviamente , nadie quiere repetir este tiempo de hambruna y desesperanza .
Pero hay científicos interesados en usar brumas de sulfuro para tapar el sol ,
y , fortuna , poder alentar los efectos del calentamiento global .
