Maria Sklodowska Curie an extraordinary person and a brilliant scientist . She polonium and radium and the first person in the world to win two Nobel prizes .

Maria born on November 7 1867 in Warsaw , Poland . She a brilliant student and from high school in 1883 , when she 15 years old . She to study at university , but this almost impossible for a woman in those days . So , for a time , she the " Floating " University in Warsaw . It was the floating university because the teacher and students met for classes in a different place every night . They had to do this because the classes illegal and it very dangerous to attend them .

Maria's family did not have much money . So , Maria to work to pay for her older sister's medical studies at the Sobornne , a famous university in Paris . Then , later , when she became a doctor , her sister would pay for Maria´s studies . So , Maria with a rich family , teaching their small children for some years . In her free time , she taught poor farm workers' children to read and write .

In 1891 , Maria studying at the Sobornne and her name to Marie . Maria worker very hard and , in 1893 , she first in her master's degree in physics . In 1894 , she second in her maths degree . Some professors to pay for her studies .

Marie to continue her research and get a doctorate , but she a laboratory to work in . A friend her to Pierre Curie , who had a space in his small laboratory . Marie and Pierre a passion for science and , through working together , they fell in love and .

Marie and Pierre as a team and each other in the field of science . They had two daughters , Irene and Eve . Marie had to work very hard to take care of her children and complete her doctoral thesis . Marie gave money back to the university to help other poor students to study .

In 1903 , Marie became the first woman to receive adoctorate in France . Her discoveries - polonium named after her home country and raium , meaning ray in Latin - the world of science forever .
