Explanation

All objects that have a temperature emit radiation at a wavelength dependent on that object's temperature (even you!). Solar radiation from the sun is emitted in the shortwave wavelength due to its temperature. The Earth (and components of the planet) emits radiation at a much longer wavelength due to its temperature that is lower than the sun. Greenhouse gases interact with radiation in the longwave wavelength (Earth's radiation).
