Explanation

Mesopotamia, in Greek, literally means "land between the rivers". It refers to the historical region situated between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, encompassing parts of modern-day Iraq, Syria, Turkey, and Iran.

The major city-states of Mesopotamia, Uruk, Ur, and Lagash, emerged around 4000 b.C.

The city-states of Mesopotamia were independent of one another, each with its own gods, laws, and customs. Sometimes they were allies, sometimes they were enemies.

Irrigation canals formed a system that allowed water to be transported from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers to the city's crops, also allowing easier access to water for people, plants, and animals.

Throughout its history, Mesopotamia was conquered by several empires, including the Babylonian, Akkadian, Persian, and Assyrian Empires.

Cuneiform writing was developed by the Mesopotamian civilization to keep records or inventory of goods, write laws, and tell stories. Initially, clay tablets and a wooden stick were used for writing.
