Una es un número binario que identifica de manera única a un dispositivo dentro de una red que utiliza el protocolo IP . Este identificador permite que los datos lleguen correctamente al destinatario , como una carta que sabe a qué casa enviar . En está formada por 32 bits , divididos en y se escribe en con puntos : xxx . xxx . xxx . xxx . Cada octeto va de 0 a 255 . está formada por 128 bits y se escribe en separados por dos puntos .
