Mereka menggunakan larutan untuk mendeteksi gula reduktan seperti , di mana perubahan warna menjadi oranye menandakan adanya gula . Uji dilakukan dengan larutan untuk melihat keberadaan amilum dalam contoh makanan . uji membantu menentukan kandungan dalam suatu makanan , sementara uji dengan minyak menunjukkan adanya lemak . Semua aktivitas dilakukan di bawah pengawasan guru dan protokol keselamatan laboratorium .
