Si la lesión ocular es solo en un ojo, se debe cubrir unicamente ese ojo para no afectar la vision del sano.

Las heridas cortantes siempre deben cubrirse con cualquier tela disponible, incluso sucia, para detener la hemorragia.

En heridas cortantes lo primero que se debe hacer es lavar con agua corriente limpia hasta eliminar indicios de material extraño.

El uso de antisépticos como yodo povidona o clorhexidina está indicado siempre y cuando no tengamos agua disponible.

Si una herida comienza mostrar enrojecimiento, calor o dolor son señales de que se está cicatrizando normalmente.

En heridas del tórax la persona debe colocarse sobre su lado sano para proteger la lesión.

En heridas abdominales, si los órganos internos salen hacia afuera, lo correcto es empujarlos hacia el interior con cuidado.

En caso de sospecha de infección en una herida se recomienda asistir a un control médico y no usar remedios caseros o cremas.

La fiebre es signo de que la herida se está infectando.

Si no hay agua corriente disponible para limpiar una herida no debe usarse ninguna otra fuente de agua.
