About this activity

Trypanosoma cruzi es un protozoo hemoflagelado, agente etiológico de la
tripanosomiasis americana o Enfermedad de Chagas. Es una parasitosis endémica
en América Latina, desde México hasta Argentina, y constituye un grave problema
de salud pública. Se caracteriza por una fase aguda a menudo leve o asintomática,
seguida de una fase crónica que puede manifestarse décadas después con
miocardiopatía dilatada y/o alteraciones digestivas (megacolon, megaesófago). La
transmisión vectorial a través de insectos triatominos (chinches besuconas o
vinchucas) es la principal vía, pero también puede ser congénita, por transfusión
sanguínea, trasplante de órganos u oral.
