It is well known that reading for pleasure and helps children´s development . After all , reading to increase both vocabulary and general knowledge . But there are wider benefits too . Research has shown that children who enjoy reading better mathematical skills . The explanation for this is that having awide vocabulary people to absorb information more easily . Researchers have found that only a quarter of British children read in their spare time . In addition , one in five children is embarassed to be seen reading a book . Since children who think reading is uncool are likely to in their schooling and perhaps be less likely to complete secondary school , educators must find ways to change children´s attitude towards reading .
