Bush and many other world leaders formed a powerful ? a group of countries that worked together ? to demand that Iraq leave Kuwait .

When Saddam refused , the coalition launched Operation Desert Storm in early , using air strikes and ground troops to push forces out . After about six weeks , Kuwait was , meaning it was freed from Iraq ? s control . The war quickly , with Iraq defeated but Saddam still in power . The Persian Gulf War showed how cooperation could stop and protect smaller nations from invasion .
