Almanzor fue uno de los personajes más de al - Ándalus durante el final del Califato de , en el siglo X . Aunque no era califa , gobernó en su nombre y dirigió numerosas campañas llamadas razzias , con las que buscaba demostrar la fuerza del islam y conseguir .
Almanzor organizó más de cincuenta razzias contra los reinos del norte de la Península Ibérica . Una de las más famosas fue la de Santiago de Compostela , en el año 997 . Sus tropas saquearon la ciudad y quemaron muchos edificios , aunque respetaron la tumba del Santiago . Como símbolo de su victoria , los prisioneros cristianos tuvieron que llevar los grandes portones de la iglesia y las hasta Córdoba .
También atacó Barcelona en el año 985 , destruyéndola casi por completo y llevándose a miles de . Gracias a estas campañas , Almanzor mantuvo el y la gloria de al - Ándalus durante muchos años .
