Many people love having pets . Pets make us happy and ( teach ) us how to care for others . However , not everyone knows that many animals ( wait ) for a home in animal shelters . These animals are called rescued animals .

Some of them have lived on the streets before , and others were abandoned by their owners . When you adopt an animal , you ( give ) it a second chance to live a happy life . Most shelters have dogs and cats , but some also ( keep ) rabbits or birds . The animals are checked by a vet to make sure they are healthy .

Adopting a pet is often cheaper than buying one from a shop . Many shelters ( already give ) the animals their vaccinations . Besides saving money , you also save a life . When one animal is adopted , another one will get a place in the shelter .

Last year , my cousin ( adopt ) a dog named Coco . At first , Coco was very shy and hid under the bed . Now he ( is ) happy and playful . My cousin has learned to be more patient and caring .

If you decide to adopt , you ( need ) to think carefully . A pet needs food , water , and time with you every day . If you are too busy , it ( be ) difficult to care for your pet properly .

Adopting an animal ( is ) an act of kindness . You will feel proud knowing you ( give ) a home to a living being that truly needs it .
