The or is a small but powerful used to present alternatives . In everyday speech it often means a choice between options , as in coffee or tea . In logic and computer science , or denotes a connective with an interpretation : if A or B is true , then at least one is true . Some texts contrast inclusive or with or , where both options cannot be chosen at the same time . Understanding how or operates helps in decision making and problem solving .
