CRISPR - Cas9 become a truly new and important method in science , changing how experts work with genes . 2012 , this tool has let researchers cut and change the tiny pieces of DNA with great accuracy , giving us new control over life itself . For , scientists have already ( use ) it well to fix simple gene problems in the lab , which has created many chances for treating illnesses like blood disease . , because it increased its cost and it is easy to use , it helped research move faster everywhere , leading to better crops and new tests for sickness . On the other , the power of this method has been ( raise ) important questions about what is right and wrong , especially about using it on human eggs or sperm . All things , even with these necessary talks about safety , CRISPR - Cas9 has shown to be one of the most useful and major new scientific tools we have ( see ) in recent years .
