The Archaeology of Memory
The concept of memory , once confined to neurological study , ( 0 ) NOW extends to encompass architecture . The very streets we walk ( 1 ) themselves constantly rebuilt and reconfigured . Throughout history , urban planners ( 2 ) consistently taking decisions which obliterate the past .
Before the demolition of the old market square , locals ( 3 ) arguing heatedly over its preservation for months .

Though the arguments raged , the wrecking balls ( 4 ) / WERE already moved in by the end of last year . It became impossible to turn ( 5 ) the inevitable change .
Despite the loss , the city authorities ( 6 ) continually making efforts to document what remains . Next month , a team of historians ( 7 ) finally putting their exhibition together . This , they hope , will help citizens keep ( 8 ) the architectural memory of their city .
