For example , can shows ability , indicates permission , and might suggests possibility . We also use could as a past form of can , to give advice , for strong obligation , and would for hypothetical situations . Sometimes shall is used for offers or questions , and will express future actions . Remember that the main verb stays in its base form after a modal .
