My Digital Detox
For a time , I was addicted to my phone . I would scroll Instagram and TikTok every morning , before I got out of bed . I loved what my friends were doing , and I followed many travel accounts with amazing photos . It was fun , but I too much time looking a perfect , fake world .
I started to compare my life with the lives I saw online . If a friend posted a picture of a beautiful holiday , I a little sad that I was just sitting at home . If my posts get many likes , I felt . It was clear that social media was starting to affect my mental health .
One weekend , my brother a " digital detox . " He said , " You need to take a break and focus real life . " I was nervous , but I agreed . For 48 hours , I all the social media apps from my phone and put the phone in a drawer .
The first day was difficult . Every time I was , my hand reached for my phone , but the apps were gone ! I felt lonely for a few hours . Then , I started to do other things . I read a real book , I went for a long walk with my dog , and I made a delicious new . I even called my grandmother instead just sending her a quick message .
By the end of the weekend , I felt much better . My mind was clearer , and I was less stressed . I that the people and places online are not the only things that matter .
Now , I use social media differently . I only check it a day for 30 minutes , and I unfollow any accounts that make me feel bad . I use it to connect with family far , and I get my real news from trusted websites , not just my feed . Social media is a tool , not a boss . I am much happier now that I am in control .
