I furono una classe di rettili che dominò la Terra per oltre 160 milioni di anni , estendendosi in tre grandi periodi : Triassico , Giurassico e . Alcuni erano , altri carnivori , e le loro impronte nei sedimenti raccontano ambienti maturi e differenti . Le scoperte paleontologiche arrivano dai , da ossa fossilizzate e da tracce che indicano di specie diverse , talvolta con anche se non in tutte le linee evolutive , segnando passi cruciali della storia biologica .

Tra i più noti troviamo il brontosauro dai lunghi colli , l ? apatosauro e il brachiosauro . Questi dinosauri si nutrivano principalmente di piante della foresta , usando una specializzata per strappare foglie dure e frutti . Il permetteva di raggiungere cime e cespugli alti , riducendo la competizione con altri erbivori . Per digerire la grande quantità di cibo , svilupparono e stomaci robusti , svolgendo un ruolo chiave negli ecosistemi dell ? epoca mesozoica .

Nel Cretaceo e nel Giurassico , i erano predatori agili e terrosi . Dinosauri carnivori come Tyrannosaurus rex e Velociraptor avevano per prede rapide . Alcuni , invece , come , erano adattati ad ambienti acquatici , nutrendosi di pesci . I loro scheletri mostrano robuste mascelle e cinghie muscolari potenti , utili per mordere e strappare carne . Le loro strategie includono agguati , inseguimenti e caccia cooperativa in branchi limitati .
