The were religious wars that took place between 1095 and 1291 . They began when European traveled to take control of Jerusalem , a city they considered " The Land . " At the time , Jerusalem was under the control of rulers , and both groups believed the city was to their faiths .
There many different Crusades over two hundred years . While many people fought because of their religious , others joined the journey to find adventure , gain land , or escape poverty at home .
In the end , the Crusades the world forever . Although the Christians did not keep control of Jerusalem , the wars opened up routes between Europe and Asia . People began exchanging new ideas , , technologies and knowledge .
