Now you know that at the beginning of a word , the voiceless stops / p , t , k / are pronounced with ( a strong puff of air ) , especially before a stressed vowel .

Now you know that aspiration happens only when / p , t , k / are followed by a vowel ( e . g . part , attack ) , and there is no aspiration in syllables ( e . g . apple , attic ) .

Now you know that when a word ends in a consonant and the next word starts with a , you should link them smoothly ( e . g . fresh ? air , keep ? it ) .

Now you know that when final and initial consonants meet , you usually keep the final consonant , don ? t add a vowel , and if the consonants are the same or similar , you pronounce one consonant , not two ( e . g . black cat , bus stop , safe vehicles ) .
