According to the SLF website , there are currently around 7 million student borrowers . To these financial difficulties , two potential solutions are creating a budget plan and applying for scholarships . , budgeting is a critical strategy . It is essential for students to their finances by keeping track of their income and expenses . One effective budgeting method is the 50 / 30 / 20 model : 50% of income be allocated to necessities , 30% to discretionary or non - essential spending , and the remaining 20% should be saved . This approach students avoid unnecessary spending and ensures that limited funds are used efficiently throughout the semester . Secondly , seeking financial from the university can also help . Many faculties offer full or partial scholarships to students . , some departments provide part - time Teaching Assistant positions , where students can earn money while gaining valuable work experience . Such financial support can significantly reduce students ? financial burden , them to focus more on their academic responsibilities rather than financial stress . In , financial difficulties can be alleviated through budgeting and financial support from the university .
