الأساسات تقف فوق سطح الأرض ولا تحتاج إلى نقل الوزن إلى التربة.

البلاطة (السقف) تحمل أوزانًا كثيرة مثل وزن الناس والأثاث وتُنقل جميع هذه الأوزان إلى العرقان ثم إلى الأعمدة.

الأعمدة تحمل وزن المبنى بالكامل وتنقل هذا الوزن إلى الأساسات تحت الأرض.

البلاطة ليست مسؤولة عن حمل الأثاث والناس وإنما يقتصر دورها على حماية المساحة فقط.

الجدران هي الجزء الأساسي المستمر الذي يحمل وزن المبنى كما الأعمدة والكمرات.

الجدران التي نراھا لا تحمل المبنى، بل هي للفصل بین الغرف والحمایة من العوامل الخارجیة؛ الذي یحمل المبنى حقًا ھو الأعمدة والكمرات والأسقف والأساسات.

الھیكل الإنشائي هو الجزء الذي یحمل المبنى ویحمیھ من الانھیار، وتتعاون الأعمدة والعرقان والبلاطة والأساسات لضمان السلامة.

العرقان (الكمرات) هي عناصر أفقية تمتد بين عمودين وتساهم في نقل الوزن من السقف إلى الأعمدة.

وجود عمود واحد كافٍ لضمان ثبات المبنى ومنع انهياره.
