In fact , I first noticed him he was always the same : every Monday at 6 : 17 a . m . , a man in a charcoal coat walked onto Platform 3 , checked the board , left . Indeed , he never boarded a train .

Curiosity grew . I watched small details , for example how he moved calmly even in the cold , and how he seemed to read something no one else could see . One morning , I followed him .

He went through a door marked Staff Only . It should have been locked ; it wasn ? t . I hesitated , but stepped inside . Down a staircase , he entered a dim room with a table full of maps schedules . He turned and said , " You weren ? t supposed to follow . "

On the table , I saw a folder with photos of commuters ? then my own . I asked what it was . He said it was a " correction . " Trains , he explained , sometimes create small " overlaps " where life goes off track . He prevents that by tiny delays ? missed trains , changed platforms . , what looks like bad luck might be planned . , the station isn ? t just a station ; it ? s a control room .

Then he looked at me and said , " You noticed . That ? s a problem . " He gave me a choice : forget everything , or help him . I took a deep breath . , I realized some routines aren ? t habits ? they ? re hidden decisions .

, the power didn ? t go out during my final presentation ? at least , not at first . I had prepared for weeks , and the room was quiet enough to hear my own breathing . , my professor was in a good mood , which felt like a rare gift .

I began confidently . In , I had printed copies for everyone , just in case the projector failed . The first slides went smoothly ; the class even nodded along . , the topic I thought was " too boring " suddenly sounded meaningful when I explained it out loud .

Then my laptop froze .

I tried to stay calm . , my hands started to sweat . I clicked , waited , and smiled as if everything was fine . On the other hand , the silence in the room grew heavier every second .

" Do you want to continue without the slides ? " my professor asked .

I wanted to say no . , I remembered the printed copies . I passed them around and kept speaking , using the notes I had memorized . , the questions from my classmates became more thoughtful because they were actually reading , not just watching .

, the discussion became the best part of the session . One student challenged my main point , and instead of panicking , I explained my reasoning and adjusted my example . The professor leaned forward , listening closely .

My laptop restarted . I could have returned to the slides . In contrast , I chose not to . I finished the talk face - to - face , without hiding behind the screen .

At the end , my smiled . " That was your strongest presentation this semester . "

I walked out feeling lighter . The glitch had been stressful ? nonetheless , it forced me to connect with the room , not just the technology .
