تمثّلت الأطروحةُ في ضرورةِ عودة المأمون إلى بغداد، وقد تبنّاها الخليفةُ الأمين.

طَرَفَا الحجاج هما الأمين وهارون الرشيد، وقد تميّز الأمين بالحكمة وحسن المداراة، وهارون الرشيد بالعقلِ والتبصّر.

حضرت أسماء الأماكن حضورًا لافتًا في النصّ، إلا أنّ ذِكْرَ خُراسان ، وبغداد هما الأكثر دلالة؛ إذ تتجلّى من خلال ذكرهما رغبة الأمين في عودة المأمون إلى بغداد.
