Practice question forms in conversational English

by Muhlisa Torayeva
1

You can form a question in English simply by changing the punctuation to a question mark without altering word order.

2

In English, to ask a question, you always keep the normal statement word order.

3

Yes/No questions can start with any verb, even without an auxiliary or modal.

4

For present simple with a non-auxiliary verb, you add 'do/does' to form questions (Do you like tea?).

5

Tag questions attach a short question at the end (It's cold, isn't it?).

6

The auxiliary verb is never used in any questions.

7

Wh-questions begin with a question word like who, what, where, when, why, or how.

8

When the main verb is a be-verb, you invert the subject and be for questions (Is she arriving?).

9

In English, yes/no questions invert the subject and auxiliary verb (e.g., Are you coming?).

10

Wh-questions do not require inversion in English.
