يمكن للاعب أن يركض بثلاث خطوات فقط وهو يحمل الكرة قبل التمرير أو التسديد.

المباراة تتكون من أربعة أشواط فقط وليست من فترتين.

يُحتسب الهدف عندما تدخل الكرة المرمى كاملة داخل الإطار وتغادر لا شيء.

يضم كل فريق سبعة لاعبين على الملعب بما فيهم حارس المرمى.

الكرة تُلعب فقط بالأيدي، ولا يسمح لمسها بأي جزء من الجسم تحت مستوى الكتف.

عندما تخرج الكرة من الملعب بسبب لمسها من لاعب من الفريق المهاجم، تُمنح رمية تماس للفريق المدافع.

لا يوجد حد زمني للمباريات في كرة اليد الحديثة.
