El programa sólo se aplica a delitos graves y no es adecuado para faltas leves o incidentes escolares.

Solo interviene el infractor; la víctima no forma parte del proceso.

Se prioriza la responsabilidad del infractor y la satisfacción de las necesidades de las víctimas.

Participan la víctima, el ofensor y facilitadores entrenados en mediación para buscar acuerdos de reparación.

El objetivo principal es imponer castigos severos para disuadir futuras infracciones.

Se utilizan círculos restaurativos para acordar acuerdos de reparación y compromisos de cambio de conducta.

El Programa de Justicia Juvenil Restaurativa busca reparar el daño causado por la conducta delictiva mediante diálogo entre víctimas, infractores y comunidad.

Cada acuerdo de reparación debe pagarse en dinero al estado, sin otros acuerdos de reparación comunitaria.

La confesión ante el juez es obligatoria para participar en el programa.
