Than is used in comparatives.

Comparatives are only used to compare TWO things.

More is the clue word in comparatives and its abbreviation is "er".

Adjectives that have one syllable or two syllables need the "er" at the end of the adjectives. For example: young - younger old - older hot - hotter cheap - cheaper

Superlatives are used to compare three, four, five, or more things. Example: I am the oldest in my classroom.

"Most" is the clue word of superlatives and its abbreviation is "est".

"est" goes at the end of the adjectives and they need "the" before it. Example: old - the oldest / young - the youngest. Mary is the youngest in her family.

The adjectives that have more than two syllables don't need abbreviations er or est. Example: beautiful, expensive, handsome, etc. They need to use more or most. Example: She is more beautiful than you. (comparative) She is the most beautiful in the school. (superlative)

Irregular adjectives and their comparatives are: good - better bad - worse fast - farther little - less

Irregular adjectives and their superlatives are: good - best bad - worst fast - farthest little - least

Irregular adjectives and their superlatives are: good - best bad - worst fast - farthest little - least
