First , D means . You must check if the place is safe for you , the injured person , and other people . For , look for fire , traffic , electricity , or broken glass . Next , R means Response . Try to see if the is awake . You can speak loudly and ask , " Are you okay ? " You can also gently touch their shoulders . If the person does not , call for help . Then , A means Airway . Check if the person ? s airway is open . If something is blocking their or throat , remove it carefully if you can see it . After that , B means Breathing . Look at the , listen for breathing sounds , and feel for air from the nose or mouth . Do this for about 10 . If the person is breathing , put them on their side in the recovery position and stay with them until help arrives . If the person is not breathing , C means CPR . CPR helps keep blood and oxygen moving around the body . Place the person flat on their and put your hands in the middle of their chest . Push hard and fast 30 , then give 2 rescue breaths if you know how . Keep doing this until the person starts breathing or emergency arrive . Finally , D means Defibrillation . This means using an AED , which is a machine that can help restart the heart . Turn it on and follow the voice instructions . DRABCD is to remember and can save a life in an emergency . Even basic first aid knowledge can make a big . It is a good idea for everyone to learn DRABCD because accidents can anywhere , such as at home , school , work , or in the street .
