Adults learning theory is about how learn in different ways from children . It helps teachers understand adult learners better . One famous person in this theory is Malcolm Knowles . He that adults learn best when learning is useful , practical , and connected to real life . First , adults usually want to why they need to learn something . They do not always enjoy learning facts without a clear reason . For , an adult may study English because they want a better job , need to speak with people , or want to help their children at school . When adults the purpose of learning , they often become more interested and motivated . Second , adults bring a lot of life experience to the classroom . They have worked , raised , solved problems , and faced many situations . This experience can help them learn new ideas more easily . Teachers should use these experiences in class by asking questions , sharing examples , and encouraging discussion . Third , adults like learning that is . They usually prefer lessons that help them in daily life , work , or study . For example , instead of only learning grammar rules , adult English learners may want to practice writing , speaking in interviews , or reading signs and forms . Another important point is that adults often want to be . They like to make choices about what and how they learn . A good teacher should give support , but also allow learners to take for their own learning . However , adults may also face challenges . Some feel nervous , busy , or tired of work and family responsibilities . Others may lack confidence if they had difficult school experiences in the past .
