On many mornings , the sky appears and bright , with birds chirping and temperatures rising . As a day progresses , the air can feel , pushing leaves along the sidewalk and making it harder to keep hats in place . Some afternoons turn , the sun slipping behind thick gray clouds , signaling a change in mood and shade . Later , the forecast may bring spells , when sidewalks become slick , umbrellas open , and people adjust plans to stay dry . Understanding these characteristics helps us plan activities and outfits .
