يجوز أن يكون المنعوت نكرة والنعْت معرفاً.

النعْت لا يطابق المنعوت في الإعراب.

نعْت يمكن أن يكون صفة تأتي بعد اسم معرف مثل: الكتاب الجديد.

النعْت يأتي قبل المنعوت.

إذا كان المنعوت نكرة، فالنعْت يكون نكرة أيضاً ويوافقه في الإعراب.

أمثلة صحيحة للتركيب النعتي: الصديق الوفي، السيارة السريعة.

النعْت يتبع المنعوت ويصفه.

النعت والمنعوت لا يكونان جملة وحدهما

إذا وقع اسم الإشارة بعد الاسم المعرفة لا يكون نعتا
