Explicación

La amígdala funciona como el "radar de peligros" de nuestro cerebro. Su función principal es procesar las emociones y disparar una respuesta inmediata (lucha o huida) antes de que la parte racional del cerebro tenga tiempo de analizar la situación. Por eso, es la pieza clave en nuestras reacciones instintivas.

Un "secuestro emocional" ocurre cuando la amígdala reacciona de forma tan intensa que "desconecta" a la corteza prefrontal (la zona encargada del razonamiento). Esto explica por qué, en momentos de mucha ira o miedo, decimos o hacemos cosas de las que luego nos arrepentimos: nuestra capacidad lógica estaba literalmente bloqueada.
