Scientists invented better electronic parts , such as transistors . These new parts replaced old vacuum tubes . As a result , computers were cheaper and more reliable . Some universities and started to use them every day . Later , in the 1970s and 1980s , personal computers appeared . These computers were small to use at home or in school . Companies like Apple and IBM helped make computers . People could write documents , play simple games , and learn new skills . Computers slowly became part of life .

In the 1990s , the internet changed how people computers . With internet access , people could send emails , search for information , and talk to others around the world . Computers became tools for , work , and entertainment . Today , computers are everywhere . They are in phones , cars , and even watches . Modern computers are very fast and easy to use .
