Il treno regionale attraversato la nebbia fitta della valle . Fuori dal finestrino non si più visto nulla : solo il bianco della neve e il nero della notte . All ? interno della carrozza 5 , l ? atmosfera diventata strana . Il Signor Martini smesso di parlare e in quel momento si addormentato , ma la sua mano destra rimasta appoggiata sul vecchio libro di pelle .

Elena cercato di stare sveglia . guardato il corridoio del vagone . In fondo , vicino alla porta , un uomo . Elena lo chiamato mentalmente " l'Uomo in Nero " . In piedi lí da quando il treno è partito , ma non si è mai seduto . rimasto in piedi , immobile , e guardato fisso verso di lei . O forse guardato la sua valigia ? Elena sentito il cuore in gola .

Improvvisamente , il treno fatto un rumore terribile : screeeech ! Le ruote frenato bruscamente . Elena stata spinta in avanti .

" Cosa successo ? " urlato una voce in fondo al vagone .

Poi , il disastro : le luci del treno iniziato a lampeggiare e , un secondo dopo , si spente completamente . Il vagone piombato nel buio totale . Senza luna , e senza le luci della città . Solo il silenzio della neve , interrotto dal respiro pesante dei passeggeri .
