Una mezcla es la unión de dos o más sustancias que pueden separarse . Una mezcla es aquella en la que los componentes están uniformemente distribuidos y no se distinguen a simple vista ; ejemplos : una salina o aire limpio . Por el contrario , una mezcla presenta partes visibles distintas , como ensalada , granito o leche con grumos . En química se usan métodos para separar las sustancias : la aprovecha diferentes puntos de ebullición , la retiene sólidos , la separa líquidos de distinta densidad , y el tamizado distingue por tamaño de poros .

En la vida cotidiana , muchas sustancias se combinan para formar una . Algunas son soluciones claras , donde una sustancia atraviesa a otra , como la sal disuelta en agua . Para separar una mezcla heterogénea , se pueden usar métodos como para retener sólidos con un filtro , para que las partículas grandes se depositen , y para verter el líquido sin mover el residuo . Otros métodos son para eliminar el agua y , si hay sustancias magnéticas , la para recogerlas .
