Maria decides to visit her grandmother's house , and when she arrives , she is extremely surprised because the house is enormous and filled with many objects . They also have several animals . When Maria enters the house , she notices a macaw perched on top of a vase . She continues exploring the house but doesn't find her grandmother . She looks for a cup of coffee on the table , thinking her grandmother might be the kitchen , but finds only some toast the sandwich maker . Worried , she goes upstairs to the bedroom but finds her grandmother hiding the door . Maria , surprised , asks her why she's hiding , but her grandmother explains that she was actually playing hide - and - seek with her grandfather . They go outside to look for him and find him of the garden .
