يعتمد مقدار الانكسار على معامل الانكسار للوسطين وفق قانون سني.

سرعة الضوء في الماء هي نفسها تماماً كما في الفراغ.

عند انتقال الضوء من الهواء إلى الماء، يتغير اتجاهه وتسمى هذه الظاهرة الانكسار.

الزاوية الساقطة تساوي الزاوية المنكسرة دائماً.

الانكسار يحدث فقط للضوء المرئي، ولا يحدث للضوء غير المرئي مثل الأشعة فوق البنفسجية.

الضوء أسرع في الهواء من الماء أو الزجاج.

الضوء لا يغيّر اتجاهه عند الانتقال من الهواء إلى الماء.

عند وصول الضوء إلى سطح يفصل بين وسطين شفافين، يغير اتجاهه وفق زاوية الانكسار

قانون سني لا ينطبق إلا في التجارب المعملية فقط وليس في الحياة اليومية.
