The transmission model

In the transactional model:

Perceptual filters:

Explicación

the transmission model sees communication as a message moving directly from one person to another, “similar to someone tossing a ball and walking away.” This means one person sends the message and the other receives it, without feedback or shared meaning-making.

communication is like “a game of catch,” where both people actively participate in the exchange of messages. It states that “as we communicate our message, we receive feedback from the other party,” meaning communication is a two-way process in which both people send, receive, and interpret information together

people understand messages through their own subjective lenses, influenced by factors such as past experiences, age, culture, religion, emotions, and relationships. As a result, the same message can be interpreted differently by different people, which is why perceptual filters affect the meaning we give to communication rather than simply adding information or limiting the number of messages we receive.
