Some experts believe social media helps children stay informed about world events , others argue that children may become distracted by entertainment content . educational material being available , cyberbullying continues to be a serious concern for many families . Some children use social media responsibly . Others spend many hours online , they still struggle to communicate face - to - face . many risks are associated with social media , it can still be useful if it is monitored carefully . Parents often create screen - time rules . Children sometimes ignore them ; , online activity should continue to be supervised . Many teenagers enjoy creating online content younger children may not fully understand internet dangers . the fact that social media can support communication , personal information is sometimes shared publicly without enough protection .
