KFC started many years ago because one man worked hard and gave up . His name was Colonel Harland Sanders . He was in the United States and had many different jobs when he was young . He worked as a , a streetcar conductor , and a salesman . Later , he opened a small service station in the state of . Travelers stopped there to buy fuel and rest . Sanders began cooking meals for the visitors because there was no restaurant . People enjoyed his food very much , especially his fried chicken . He used a special recipe with eleven herbs and spices . The chicken became because it was tasty and different from other chicken meals . In 1930 , Sanders opened a restaurant near his service station and his famous fried chicken to more customers . He continued improving his recipe and cooking methods . In the 1950s , a new was built , and fewer people visited his restaurant . This was a difficult time for him . However , Sanders did not quit . Instead , he traveled the country and asked restaurant owners to use his chicken recipe . He made an agreement with them and received a small payment for each chicken meal they sold . Many restaurant owners the idea because customers enjoyed the chicken . Soon , more restaurants began selling Sanders ? s fried chicken . The business grew quickly across the United and later around the world . In 1952 , the first official KFC franchise opened . The company one of the most famous fast - food businesses in the world . Today , KFC has thousands of restaurants in many . People continue to enjoy its fried chicken because of the special recipe created by Colonel Sanders . His story teaches us that work , determination , and believing in your ideas can help you achieve success , even when life becomes .
